The Department of Chemistry, Maharajah’s College, Vizianagaram, organized a field visit to the DEWATS (Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System) facility at MVGR College of Engineering, Chintalavalasa, on 07 August 2026. A total of 37 Chemistry Honours students participated in the visit.
The field visit was organized to provide students with practical exposure to wastewater treatment processes and to enhance their understanding of the importance of sustainable wastewater management.
During the visit, Dr. Ravi Shankar, Resource Person from Civil Engineering Departmentdelivered an informative presentation through PPT on the importance of wastewater treatment, the need for sustainable water management, and the functioning of DEWATS. He subsequently demonstrated the various stages and processes involved in the DEWATS facility.
The students actively observed the treatment process and gained valuable practical knowledge regarding the treatment and management of wastewater. The field exposure helped the students connect their theoretical knowledge in Chemistry with real-life environmental applications.
The visit was accompanied by Dr. A. Ganga Raju and Mr. R. Ramu, who guided and supported the students throughout the programme.

The field visit enabled the students to:
• Understand the importance of wastewater treatment and water conservation.
• Gain practical knowledge of the DEWATS process.
• Relate classroom concepts of Chemistry to real-world environmental applications.
• Understand the role of decentralized wastewater treatment in sustainable development.
• Develop awareness about environmentally responsible wastewater management practices.
